OMG last week of Insanity!!! I can't believe I stuck with it as long as I have, let alone have a realistic chance of finishing it. I've never been able to complete a workout program in the past because I would get discouraged from not seeing expected results, but taking daily pictures really helped this time. Being able to see the comparison between day 1 and each day showed that even though I can't see a difference in the mirror, there IS a difference. Even though I still don't see the expected results, the fact that I am seeing some results is good enough to keep me motivated.

Consumed 1750 calories. Did the "max cardio conditioning" and "insane abs" workouts. Commuted to work by cycling.

Since making that deal with my friend I've noticed a change in my mentality. Instead of exercising/eating clean to get a better body, I'm now doing it to avoid the punishment. Fitness is now the lesser of two evils. I'm not sure how I feel about this change, but it IS effective. For example, right before indulging in some free brownies that had been set out in the lunch room at work, I remembered the deal and thought "Do I really want to give my friend $500 and be his toilet maid for 5 months?" and didn't indulge. Furthermore, I was hungry and thought about food for a good portion of today where usually I'm not hungry, but instead of eating more I thought about the deal and abstained. Certainly an interesting way to motivate.

So considering that last week I gained a pound (of muscle) rather than lose fat, I have reassessed my caloric needs. I'll be trying to eat around 1700 instead of 2000 per day. I'm not sure I can handle much less of a restriction just yet. I'll also probably do a "refeed day" every third day or so.

Today I made a deal with a friend that I would reach <20% body fat by June 10th or else I would give him $500 and clean his toilet every week for 5 months. SHIT JUST GOT REAL.


Here are the details of the deal.

Goal: <20% body fat by 10/6


Starting body fat percentage as of 22/1: 24.4%

Mini-goals:
23.4% by 19/2
22.4% by 18/3
21.4% by 15/4
20.4% by 13/5

I will email my friend a weekly progress report by mid-day of every Monday until I reach my goal or until 10/6, whichever comes first.

He will contact me in a manner of his choosing on Monday to ask for my report if he does not see a report from me in his email inbox by mid-day Monday.

If my progress report is unsatisfactory, there will be a warning the first time, and a punishment of some sort the second time. The punishment will be decided at his discretion.

I will give him $500 and clean his toilet every week for 5 months if any of the following occurs:
-I fail to give him a report after his prompt
-I fail to give him a report by mid-day Monday two weeks in a row
-I fail to meet my mini-goals by more than 0.4%
-I fail to reach <20% body fat by 10/6

The deal is off if I experience:
-medical emergencies
-alien abduction

Spent most of today cleaning my house and weeding my garden. It was so tiring and made me so hungry that I ended up eating 6 meals. Food is goooood. Also, my cherry tomatoes are starting to ripen! I'm looking forward to picking them off the vine and eating them tomorrow.

Day 44. 6 meals

Consumed 2150 calories. Did the "max circuit" workout and commuted to work by bicycle.

Ended up eating 6 meals today because I guess 5 didn't cut it? Nah, I did my workout late and already had 5 meals prior. So I had an extra meal today. As for the cycle commute, yay extra calories burned, but I'm not sure how I feel about showing up to work all sweaty. It's worth it, right?

Went to il Capo pizzeria for the first time today and ordered the vegetariana classico pizza. It was topped with mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, artichoke, avocado, zucchini, pineapple, and smothered in mozzarella. Absolutely orgasmic. It took a year, but I finally found a good pizza place near where I live!

Overall, my results improved or stayed the same. I'm quite happy. After the fit test, I did the max circuit. It was SO DIFFICULT. I had to stop many times to catch my breath. It really didn't help that I did this workout right after the fit test, which had left me breathless already. Luckily, this sort of thing- two workouts in one day- doesn't happen often. Looking forward to seeing results!

Day 29. Revelation

Today I realized the reason why my weight hasn't been changing. It's because I've been slowly increasing my caloric intake as my appetite increased! This should have been obvious but for whatever reason I didn't see it before. In essence, what I've done in the last month was to increase my metabolism to a normal level. This next month I will keep eating ~1800 calories/day and probably put in a higher calorie day every 3-4 days. Since the workouts will get harder and longer once this week is over, I foresee my metabolism increasing even more. So the next month I should start seeing changes. Fingers crossed. My body has rebelled against changing for the last several years, I'm going to try my hardest to make it change this time.
